lu: (Just like in the movies)
It's been a while. Well, more than a week, really.

I would just like to say that, yes, I am alive. Almost.

Though not as pleased as I wished with my grades. Hope I can get better. --'

Only two more essays to finish and one exam to take. *breathes* Finally. I seriously don't want to think about how I will behave on my Senior year.

Bin-jip a.k.a. 3-Iron (South Korea/Japan, 2004) ***** - This was probably the best film I've ever seen on a movie night. I have to give it the merit of not once making me feel sleepy, even though it has practically no lines. It'd been a while since I'd seen something so... beautiful; probably since House of Flying Daggers and Hero. Oriental films really do surprise me sometimes. If I get started on the cinematography I may go on for hours. Since I'm a lazy girl, I will just say that even if the film sucked, it would still be worth for the cinematography. It's a different kind of beauty from Hero-like art, though; much more subtle. Just... go see it, will you?

"I love you" - Tae-Suk, Bin-jip

There were two other films. I don't know the name of the second one in English or even the original title, which is Swedish, if I'm not mistaken. Liked it very much, but unfortunately slept a bit through it, for was immensely tired. The third film was so weird and crazy (Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien) that I'm not even sure if it's worth an LJ-cut. Plus, like I said, I'm lazy today. *grins*

Head in the Clouds (USA/UK/Spain/Canada, 2004) *** - Have some doubts concerning that rating, for the film was good but... at the same time it wasn't. But I think I'll give it the three stars for the cinematography and the first part. The plot back there is much more interesting. The director could've simply cut about half an hour of the part regarding the war easily; it made the whole thing boring and clichéd. Anyway, totally worth for Charlize. That woman surprises me every time.

"You choose people, don't you? - Guy, Head in the Clouds.

Hotel Rwanda (UK/Italy/South Africa, 2004) ***** - "This is a true story". It'd been a while since I'd been that shocked over a film; shocked to the point of crying over and over and over again. Maybe since Shindler's List, and that's been a while. No words to describe it (not being lazy right now). It's just... Goddess. Sometimes it's impressive how we really do live in a bubble. Don't have to tell you to go see it, do I?

"There will be no rescue, no intervention for us. We can only save ourselves. Many of you know influential people abroad, you must call these people. You must tell them what will happen to us... say goodbye. But when you say goodbye, say it as if you are reaching through the phone and holding their hand. Let them know that if they let go of that hand, you will die. We must shame them into sending help." - Paul Rusesabagina, Hotel Rwanda.

Alila (Israel/France, 2003) *** - I was sleepy and it was a but boring because of that. But it's really... peculiar. Each shot has at least five minutes, and each could be a short story. I wish I knew more about the Israelite society to be able to actually understand some of the critiques that I'm sure I've missed; definitely would get at least four stars if I did. The "reading the credits out loud" thing was a bit creepy. *grins*

Good times, good times.

It's just occurred to me that I should tell you that Sulla's marriage to Julilla isn't historic, if I'm not mistaken. He was married to her, but not necessary to that Julia. Or maybe it was Marius' that isn't certain. Not sure.

It is! *grins*

(I won't continue the song, because it's depressing.)

Sun's up; it's a little after twelve
Make breakfast for myself -- leave the world for someone else
People say, they say that it's just a phase
They tell me to act my age -- well, I am!
On this perfect day, nothing's standing in my way
On this perfect day, nothing can go wrong...

Eee, the song I'm listening to has 'happy' --

No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy togetheeeeer!

Why on earth would we do such a pathetic thing? *shakes head*

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
