So, christycorr, following tradition, has made her annual Oscar night post. Most of our opinions are the same, so, if you want a more detailed report of yesterday's night, just go there. *points*

I was going to make a post about the Oscars, but, since I've just commented on her post, I think I'll just post my comment here, which sums up my general view of the 78th Annual Academy Awards.





"Ok, so let us start from the beginning. God Jon. He was marvellous. I mean, it's about time the Oscars had a great host. Chris Rock was the worst thing that ever happened to the Academy. His racial jokes were just sad. Of course, Billy Cristal has a gift for this. I don't think anyone will ever beat him in 2004. That Oscar was just... I can't get myself started in LoTR. But Jon had a lot of good moments. The President joke was brilliant. He could've messed with Carrell, though. Lost a great opportunity.

I'm glad this year they gave up one the whole "thanking from the audience" thing. It was just so... stupid-- even though it made the show much more quicker. People really shouldn't be discredited like that. It was odd, really.

So. About the actual awards.

I was glad about Clooney. I mean, at least he didn't walk out empty handed. I have a feeling he's going to get better everyday now. Who knows? Maybe he'll shoot one or two masterpieces and be one of those old guys that receives the honorary Oscar. By the way, we have to watch Altman's films ASAP. Meryl was great tonight.

King Kong absolutely earned everything it got. I wish the movie had been nominated in other cathegories as well, though. I'm a believer that someday the Academy will give an award to Serkins. Honestly.

Memoirs. A great movie when it comes to the art, and, really, earned all of those. All the time I had this feeling that Brokeback would end up in snatching everything. I was very, very happy it didn't. It's time the Academy learned. Granting an Oscar to Aviator for cinematography while they had options like Flying Daggers was just sad.

It was great that Rachel Weiss won. I wish Constant had snatched soundtrack as well. Brokeback's very appropriated, but... meh. OMGTHATMEDLEY. Oh, by the way, what is it with the Academy and rap songs? o.o'

I liked the victory of March of the Penguins, even though I didn't see the other ones. The speech was so cute! Corpse-Bride should've gotten the animation one, though. Pity. Burton needs an Oscar.

Oh, I want to see Totsi.

I won't comment about Reese. Still can't believe it.Judi Dench needs one Oscar before she dies. *cries* She was so, so, so great in Mrs. Handerson. *dies*

Oh, by the way... Phillip. *_* That was the part of his life.

I agree with you-- Ang Lee should've gotten Best Picture instead of Best Director, for the direction of Crash is fantastic. But, I don't know... It was good this way. The biggest surprise I ever had on an Oscar night-- or, at least, one of the greatest.

I do believe that either Good Night and Good Luck and Capote deserved the Best Picture--maybe even more than Crash. But, it's hard to say. This year's movies were very different from each other. It's hard to tell--they're all great movies. I'm ignoring Munich here.

I just hope the gay actvists don't start calling the Academy "homophobic" after this. Yet why do I have a feeling people will complain? --'
