Bienal

Well, everyone is talking about it, so I figured I should just say a little bit about My Favourite Book Fair of All Time.

Bienal has always meant a lot to me. Ever since I was a kid my mother took me there, every two years. After I moved to São Paulo I started going every year, one there and one here, in Rio. There was never a Bienal that wasn't special to me in some way.

Over the past four years, they all brought excellent surprises. In 2003, I came out of the closet for the first time in my life. My confident was my best friend and future girlfriend, [livejournal.com profile] deadcinderella.

In 2004 I got closer to my freshly acquired friends in São Paulo, especially to [livejournal.com profile] hermikiller who would also turn out to be a future girlfriend.

2005 was a Rio year, and I went with my mother, my sister, [livejournal.com profile] deadcinderella and [livejournal.com profile] christycorr. One of the first times I went out with Chris, and the first weekend we saw each other every day. I guess I don't really have to explain how that turned out.

This year, 2006, I was only able to go on a Wednesday, usually a fairly calm day. Of course, I wasn't counting on the school trips to the place. I met [livejournal.com profile] xxxemo_girlxxx, bought only two books on Roman History, and saved the money to spend at Livraria Cultura afterwards. I had a great time, and my companion this time was my best gay friend, [livejournal.com profile] magnun.

I wonder if we'll ever date. *laughs*

Oh, I do love book fairs. It's been forever since I've gone shopping for books...*smiles* I really do have to go again. *crosses fingers and hopes she gets lots of book certificates for her birthday*

Seventeen! Tee-hee!

Hey, Grandma.

Now, now, dear. You have to respect your betters.

*grins* *pulls out knitting needles* *puts on glasses*

Hello, dera.

*mutters under breath like typical rebellious teenager* Betters? I'd say elders! *laughs nastily*

*sneers* *secretly wants to ask for brownies but is now a teenager and is mature and above asking such things*

*hisses* Don't call me that! God, you're so embarrassing!

*rolls eyes* You teenagers, always trying to act like you know better. Would it kill you to trust to wisdom for once?

*smiles* *offers brownie anyways, because grandmothers always know that sort of thing*

*offended* I've called you that since you were in diapers! You never complained about it before! *gets huffy* *takes away brownies* *sighs dejectedly*

Evol you, dera.

Stop bickering you two! I'm older than both!

Actually, I'm your stepmum.

Are you really? I didn't know that.

All I remember from the family tree is that Runi, Chris, and I were triplets.

o.o'

I thought Chris was your mother.

I'm married to your sisters, than. That means I'm your double sister-in-law.

Odd.

Is she? I doubt that, somehow. Oh, wait. She probably is, considering Arch is my twin.

*laughs* Quite.

Umm...you're what, sixteen? Seventeen? Not that much older than me, hon. And if we want to bicker, we can bicker. So there.

(Comma after "bickering", and "I'm older than both of you".)

Seventeen. Still a little older than you. *grins*

(I saw it coming. *grins* Thanks.)

Puh. Seventeen on Monday, so hah.

(I would have hoped so; you know me well enough by now. You're welcome.)

*rolls eyes* Yeah, yeah, whatever. *walks away* *thinks in head about how ridiculously stupid her grandma is* *mutters to self that she will never be like that when she grows up*

*takes it huffily* *doesn't say thanks* *slouches away to go listen to loud music and be emo and talk on the phone and not come out of room all day*

Yes, but I'm with my friends! It's embarrassing, okay? Whatever. You wouldn't understand! Fine, I don't want your lousy brownies! *tosses hair*

*laughs* You know, no matter how many times you say that to me, I still feel really sort of melty inside every time you do. It'll never lose its magic. And if it does, God help me. *grins*

Evol you, too, dera. Possibly more than James loved Lily.

*sighs unhappily* Why can't you just respect me for once, and not get all upset? (And 'never be like that,' my arse. I told myself that, and then you know what? Look at me now!)

*sighs* Say thank you, dera. And please turn that music down!

You'd be surprised at how much I do understand. It's like you calling me an "old coot" when I'm with my friends...can't you just let me show off what a wonderful, sweet granddaughter I have, for once?

...Not even double-chocolate-chip?

*smiles* Agreed. Just...yeah. *laughs* *huggles* God help us both, yeah?

Evol, dera. Probably more than Odysseus loved Penelope.

I'm not upset, okay? GOD. Like, whatever. (Yeah, okay, Grandma, we all know! You've told us, like, three thousand times. *sighs and rolls eyes*)

*calls boyfr—er...friend up* *complains and whispers*

*rolls eyes* God, Grandma, stop. *blushes* Listen, whatever, do what you want, okay? I'm talking to my friend.

*spits* I DON'T WANT YOUR COOKIES! GOD! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT?? YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND! YOU'RE OLD AND DEAF!

*laughs* Exactly. It's so, so weird knowing I've known you for this long. But then again, it feels like longer. Doesn't it?

Evol, honey. As much as Guinevere loved Lancelot, I think.

*raises eyebrows* You're doing a fair imitation of it, then. (Oh, have I? I'm sorry, dearie...you know, when you get older, you start forgetting things...I guess I just must have forgotten that I told you already.)

*rolls eyes* *threatens to unplug phone*

Oh, dera...can't you just talk to me for once? I'm your family, you know...I feel like I hardly know you!

*grabs chest* You can't mean that...you just...can't. *sighs* Excuse me.

(By the way, they were brownies, not cookies.)

*nods* I know; it does. What is it...two years now? Something like that? Feels like forever.

Evol you, darling, a thousand times more than Thursday loved Landen.

Oh, don't...*sighs*

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
