lu: (My favourite obsession)
And so it is. The Festival is over.

I leave it a better and changed person in a way. Each day more certain I want to make a movie someday: be able to affect people the way movies affect me. Be able to be a part of this complex process I call art in its most pure form.

For my 18th birthday, I want a video camera. That'll be my reply to each and everyone that asks me that question in a few months, and, maybe putting some money together, I'll be able to have it.

Meanwhile, I'll keep studying Law, with which, I too am falling in love everyday more and more. I am young, and I have time. Time to study, time to work, time to live.

Or at least I like to think so.

I leave you all with a list of the movies I saw, a short comment on each of them, and quoting the brilliant Clarissa Vaughan:

The Bridge - Very interesting documentary.
No Body Is Perfect - Incredible documentary, amazing idea and very well edited.
A Scanner Darkly - Flawless animation, great story and, in it's very special way, good acting.
Find Me Guilty - Lumet's a genius.
Clerks II - "One Ring to rule them all." OMGSOFUNNY
C.R.A.Z.Y. - Just... wow. Totally didn't expect a great movie.
Octopus Alarm - A bit slow, but very interesting. A whole new way of looking at some things.
The Ilusionist - Very nice movie, good script, amazing art.
Volver - Almodóvar succeded dealing with girls-only. *grins*
Land of Plenty - It sure gave me a lot to think about. Like Wim Wenders usually does.
Babel - You guys remember the post. Just... amazing film. Touched me, really did.
TV Junkie - Another interesting documentary. A nice editing: they had to go through over 3.000 hours of film.
The Wind That Shakes the Barley - Great movie. I was expecting more, I guess, but it was very good.
3 Needles - A view of HIV I'd never had before. Beautiful film.
Candy - Not much, maybe because there are so many movies related to drugs. But really nice to see.
Garçon Stupide - I was very tired and didn't pay much attention. No comments.
En Soap - A little bizarre, but great.
Whole New Thing - Excellent film. Simple and yet very deep. I am totally in love with that boy.
WWW - What a Wonderful World - Weird movie. Fantastic.
Daft Punk's Electroma - OMGTOOMUCHINFORMATION. Excellent movie. Need to see it again.
En la cama - More simple, impossible. Great script and acting.
Paris, je t'aime - Brilliant. So so cute, touching, and deep. Amazing what 5 minutes can do.
2:37 - Besides the likeness to Elephant, it's incredible. Loved it.
Les anges exterminateurs - A great idea plus a great script and great sex scenes.
Tsotsi - Another simple and amazing film. Great cinematography.
Citzen Duane - Funny, clever and simple. Amusing is the word.

"I remember one morning getting up at dawn, there was such a sense of possibility. You know, that feeling? And I remember thinking to myself: So, this is the beginning of happiness. This is where it starts. And of course there will always be more. It never occurred to me it wasn't the beginning. It was happiness. It was the moment. Right then." - Clarissa Vaughan, The Hours.

Post scriptum I: I've had three tests so far. Three ahead. Wish me luck. I'll need it.
Post scriptum II: São Paulo International Film Festival, here I come!
Post scriptum III: Yours truly is working on Video Post #3, and will post as soon as it's done.

Goodluck with the coming three tests, I hope the ones you had went well?

I love that Clarissa quote so much. I adore that movie so much and that is one awesome quote. I'm glad to hear that the festival left you changed and 'better'. It's amazing how that can do that to you. I really hope you can pursue more in the movie area, because it suits you so well, but studying law in the mean time is good.

I am very insecure about tests, so I'm not sure I did well. I believe I didn't do bad, at least. Thanks for asking!

I love that quote -- it's probably one of my favourite The Hours quotes. I will try and persuit more things in that area. Who knows? Maybe a course, or something. Meanwhile I'll edit my own things.

arrrrgh. I wanted to see 2:37 so bad. I was going to sneak in with my friend to see it (need to be 18+ to see it here), but transport plans fell through. Now I'll have to wait for the DVD.

And I really want to see A Scanner Darkly, C.R.A.Z.Y. and Candy.

Candy - I love drug movies, they're my favourite genre. Yes, I count 'drug movies' as a seperate genre. It's a bit of a worry, really.

Anyhoo! Enough of my rambling. I'm so glad you got to see all those great movies, while I get to wait here in the far away country that is Australia.

Oh, damn! I hate movies that are 18+. During the Festival they don't really ask for any types of IDs, so...

And do see those. They are incredible. I love drug movies, too. They pratically have a genre of their own. Ever seen Trainspotting?

And think about it... if it wasn't for the Festival I wouldn't have seen 2:37 at all! We don't get a lot of Australian movies around here.

Yes! Of course I've seen Trainspotting. It is indeed brilliant. And Australian movies can be really good when they try. :P That would have made more sense if you were australian...

Qual frase?

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
