Don't talk to me about life.

lu: (I know how you feel)
So I was reading the discussions at nerdfighters.com when I ran into this link.

The nerdfighters have been thorn between:

"Eoin Colfer is probably the best author i have ever read! And his writing style is very similar to the style of Douglas Adams!"

"YES!!!!! YEAH!!!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I'm pretty excited)."

And:

"I know it's all about personal preferences, but, though I don't think Colfer is going to ruin the series or something, I'm not sure he's the right writer for this job."

"That isn't right. Do they even know how many books make up a trilogy? FIVE. FIVE BOOKS MAKE UP A TRILOGY. Not six, not four (well, it used to, but not anymore), but FIVE. Five books."

I particularly liked this response:

"Well, I am a firm believer that and addition to the series doesn't ever kill the original. Star Wars is still great...oh wait."

My two cents were:

"God. That is just... wrong. I absolutely hated Artemis Fowl. I know it's just a personal opinion, but, for me, besides the idea that finishing up someone else 's work is pretty weird, my first impression of this is that the book would suck.

Does anybody know if Douglas Adams specified before he died if and/or who he wanted to finish up the series?"

(By the way, I still don't know the answer to that question)

So, what about you guys? Any thoughts on this?

PS: although it's hard to admit, I have never read any H2G2 books besides the first one. I'm working on it, though.
PPS: same post at UR.org
PPPS: how weird is it that I don't have momentarily forgot I had an H2G2 icon?!

ETA: Did anybody get a chance to see Sarah Palin Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live?! I mean, I was so dazzled I actually made a video post about it.
ETA II: I've made a new channel for me on YouTube. The "Watch All the Brotherhood 2.0 Videos Project" kind of inspired me.

Lulz, I love the five books = trilogy comment.

Also, there is no "right person" to continue HG2G - ugh, write it as fanfiction and label it as such, or leave the original books alone!

*laughs* Yeah, me too. A person actually responded to that saying that a trilogy only had three books. ...I'm not sure he was being sarcastic.

Exactly! The whole thing seemed to me as very weird indeed.

Although I just read the 1st book from HG2G, I really don't like that idea. You see... Colfer's books are -so- boring and I hated them, so I really think it's going to be -lame-.

(I was organazing my pictures last night and I ran into our pictures -- couple pictures, that is -- and I was amazed. They -are- really pretty. That camera had something very special about herself. Maybe she shipped us *laughs*)

Those books are really, really, really boring! It's so rare for me not to finish a book, and yet... *sigh*

(Oh, we took some nice pictures with that camera. I miss it. It totally broke after we broke up. Maybe it did ship us.)

I did finish the first two books. I never got the third because I felt I wasn't going to end it -- well, I would, but I would suffer all through it and... gah.-- I could never understand what people liked about them. Artemis was such a fanfiction!Draco... *roll eyes*

(We broke up and broke its heart. Poor thing. Got too attached!)

It is! Maybe it's like Twilight. For me it's completely crazy for someone to like, let alone love it, but... some people are just that crazy.

(Yep. Just like Defex.)

Well, yes, but Twilight sucks enough for one to point and laugh. Artemis Fowl doesn't. It doesn't suck completely, it doesn't read as a 13 year-old writting fanfiction. It's just mediocre and boring.

(Oh, yes, I remember him crying... And you broke up with my in my birthday! And you kept saying you were sorry, and you cried, while I was like "It's okay. Really. It's fine. We're together on that decision. It's fine, Luisa, why are you -crying-?". I have some funny memories about that day. Well, actually, looking at the pictures I could remember -every- single day they were took.)

That, my friend, is an excellent point.

(Aw, don't remind me of that. But, yeah, I have vivid memories of all the photos and situations. It was fun.)

I know. The bad thing about it is that even Twilight has a point in my life while Artemis Fowl doesn't.

(It was fun, no doubt about it. But it's starting to feel... a bit dream-like to me. It's like... I remember, and I remember it clearly, but it's so far back in time that it feels... Somewhat unreal. Actually, I have that feeling about almost everything pre-Arthur. I wonder if the labor messed up with my head.)

Precisely! ...by the way, I need to finish Twilight.

(Nah, I feel that way, too. About you, about Kill... even about Chris. It's weird, really.)

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
