On a totally unrelated note: last night, my faith in Rio was restored. I could swear that the Bible-thumping candidate was going to win the elections, and that I would eventually have to move because the police would start beating up the gays. On an expected turn of events, an ex-"terrorist" who fought against the dictatorship managed to get more votes than him.
Viva Gabeira! Espero que ele ganhe no segundo turno, apesar de eu saber que as chances são poucas. Mesmo que o Paes ganhe, só a noção que o Crivella não estará na jogada já faz com que eu me sinta muito melhor.
Aliás, alguém viu que o Democratas ganhou mais votos do que qualquer outro partido na Câmara? Fiquei intrigada com isso. Pelo menos a Andrea Gouvea garantiu o lugar dela lá. Eu estava com um pouco de peso na consciência de votar nela sem ter certeza de quais eram os projetos de lei que ela havia proposto, ia propôr, e os objetivos dela. Fiquei muito feliz quando o site dela voltou ao ar hoje e eu vi que ela é uma das poucas pessoas sãs que apoia a licitação pra transporte público nessa cidade.
O Rio de Janeiro continua lindo.

christycorr corrected me and said our longest democratic period was between 1891 and 1930. I can't say she's wrong, but I should add that the country was more like an oligarchy back then than anything. I mean, nobody really voted, just the rich white guys. But, still, fair enough. I stand corrected. I'll celebrate democracy again in twenty years.- the right to be unhappy:coffee-hyper

*laughs* "Nobody really voted, just the rich white guys"—well, these days, nobody really wins, except rich white guys (or tools like Lula, when they're supported by rich white guys). *shrugs*
(*grins* Well, there are things one just... doesn't say in English. Or, in my case, doesn't know how to say.)
Well... some women win.
I attempted to think of a black guy that was elected recently and failed miserably. This is sad.(*shrugs* It's very weird to discuss Brazilian politics in English. I know what you mean.)
Oh yes. Women like Roseana Sarney sometimes have brilliant public careers. That's a definite sign that things are changing, and that the rich white guys who have always been powerful in the country are no longer the ones dealing the cards. *laughs*

Bem, tem a Benedita, negra e mulher, que foi eleita vice-governadora do Rio (e possivelmente deputada ou algo assim também; eu só não lembro) o.ô I don't think Brazilians have a problem with electing black or female Congressmen, really, as long as they have the kind of money it takes to fund a political campaign here (which is a lot) and the kind of clout they'll need in order not to be irrelevant during their term (which means basically that heaps of the same people are elected over and over again until they die—literally).
(Random: I read "clout" and thought "dignitas". What the hell?)

Ela foi eleita como vice do Garotinho e atuou como governadora de fato nos últimos 100 dias de mandato quando o Garotinho renunciou para se candidatar a presidência da República (e perdeu pro Lula). Ela concorreu à "re-eleição" e perdeu pra Rosinha logo no primeiro turno. Depois ela foi trabalhar em Brasilia, fazendo sabe deus o que no governo do Lula, e saiu com acusações de desvio de dinheiro. Ela está trabalhando pro Sérgio Cabral agora, mas também não sei fazendo o que.
Mas ela é politicamente influente e é raríssimo uma mulher se tornar políticamente influente no brasil (muito mais uma mulher que um negro, eu diria), principalmente por conta dos altíssimos gastos de campanha.
... E, bem, vamos lá. Tudo pelo Crivella longe da disputa.
...cara, eu nunca vou esquecer do seu comentário do "Crivella é uma versão carioca do demônio". Foi mega-hilário.
Mas ele é! Totalmente demoniaco. Olha que coisa -linda- saiu ontem no globo sobre o sujeito:
