Never underestimate the power of denial.

When I was on the plane back home, I started wondering if it was worth it. After all, I was supposed to have worked this weekend. That's when I figured out that it may be exhausting and always a big hurry, but a trip to Rio is always worth it.

American Beauty (USA, 1999) ***** - Such a good film. Five starts for some great quotes, and to the fact that it could've been the most clichéd let's-win-the-Oscar film ever, and resisted the temptation (even though it is still a very potential-Academy-favourite movie). Great critique to America's "role model" society of perfect families and white fences. It'd been a while since I'd seen it.

"I don't think that there's anything worse than being ordinary." - Angela Haye, American Beauty

"- Are you trying to look unattractive?
- Yes.
- Well, congratulations. You've succeeded admirably."
- Carolyn and Jane Burnham, American Beauty

"- This is a $4,000 sofa, upholstered in Italian silk. It is not just a couch.
- It’s just a couch!"
- Carolyn and Lester Burnham, American Beauty

"- I'm not paying you to do... whatever it is you're doing out here.
- Fine. So don't pay me.
- Excuse me?
- I quit. So you don't have to pay me. Now leave me alone.
- ...asshole.
- I think you just became my personal hero!
- Catering Boss, Ricky Fitts and Lester Burnham, American Beauty

"I need a father who's a role model, not some horny geek-boy who's gonna spray his shorts every time I bring a girlfriend home from school."
- Jane Burnham, American Beauty

"Look at me, jerking off in the shower... This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here"
- Lester Burnham, American Beauty

Movies with Folie, Manu, [livejournal.com profile] _annabel_lee and [livejournal.com profile] christycorr.

The Island (USA, 2005) ** - I thought a lot about giving the film a three. But, honestly, a film that has the potential to be excellent and falls in total cliché is, for me, an utter disappointment. There were some good lines, yes, and the plot, like I said, has great potential. *retrains self not to mention the terrible ending wirh home-made visual effects*

"- How come we never did this before?
- Shut up.
- That tongue thing is amazing!"
- Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta, The Island

"- Who is 'God'?
- You know when you really want something, you close your eyes and wish for it really hard? God is the guy that ignores you."
- Lincoln Six-Echo and McCord, The Island

Bleh, The Island. Really good quotes, though.

I need AB icons so badly! Ugh. Hate watching good movies. And the icons comment during the Factory? Pitiful. I feel like an LJ addict.

Christy, no way you will ever overthrow me.

*snort* Keep on believing. Never underestimate the power of denial.

Oh, and, of course -- a personal favourite: Never say never.

I need a father who's a role model. (impossible not to capitalise that)
*nods* I laughed so hard at the God one.

Me too. It's a pity it's an old film. It'll be a pain to find. --' Will make icon revolution this weekend.

Not only during Factory, during Island as well. Seriously, we've reached a whooole other level.

Well, you won't. Ok, someday you will, happy? But when that day comes, I'll be dead and haunting you singing Henry the Eighth. *grins*

I know Jesus loves you!
It was great!

*sigh* Maybe in Kevin Spacey/Annette Benning communities... *sigh* What's the name of that girl again? You have to write! And there's a Noitão!

*nods* We have! Pathetic.

*laughs* Lovely. I'm looking forward to your death anyhow.

Suddenly got a strange urge to get Ghost icons.

Could he be any more pathetic?
That Jesus one too. Actually, it was ridiculous that we both started laughing alone as usual. There was another thing too... what was it?

...Angela Hayes. From where did you get Annette Benning? i know, I know. And I have to read Shoebox. *sighs* Time is a gift.

We should stop abusing that word before it's banned again.

What?! You weren't before? Don't disappoint me, Christy.

That's it. I need an icon revolution.

Are these your friends? Why don't they have clothes on?
It was, of course. Always. Don't remember... There was a line involving boredom, wasn't there? *blinks*

...What do you mean? Angela who? *goes to IMDb*

Kevin Spacey .... Lester Burnham
Annette Bening .... Carolyn Burnham
Thora Birch .... Jane Burnham

Good luck with that. And you said you really wanted to read it during the weekend, too... -.-'

Always, always have. You know that.

Of course you do.

Where was that from? *ponts to your subject*

Oh, yeah! I don't remember it, but there was.

Oh! I thought you said that Mena Suvari's character was named Annette. *headdesk*

I know, I know. --'

And there goes another word. That's been ruined for a long time now.

Oh. ... Whatever.

It was ruined a while ago, yes. ... Shall we?

Acabei de ter o sonho MAIS SURTADO da minha vida -- envolvia a Oprah, Donnie Darko, 1984 e meu professor de francês. Ah, e você, é claro. >.< Christ. (*grins* Wasn't it true or is it all tainted in your view? Could I be just a dream or two / Away from you?)

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
