Never underestimate the power of denial.

When I was on the plane back home, I started wondering if it was worth it. After all, I was supposed to have worked this weekend. That's when I figured out that it may be exhausting and always a big hurry, but a trip to Rio is always worth it.

American Beauty (USA, 1999) ***** - Such a good film. Five starts for some great quotes, and to the fact that it could've been the most clichéd let's-win-the-Oscar film ever, and resisted the temptation (even though it is still a very potential-Academy-favourite movie). Great critique to America's "role model" society of perfect families and white fences. It'd been a while since I'd seen it.

"I don't think that there's anything worse than being ordinary." - Angela Haye, American Beauty

"- Are you trying to look unattractive?
- Yes.
- Well, congratulations. You've succeeded admirably."
- Carolyn and Jane Burnham, American Beauty

"- This is a $4,000 sofa, upholstered in Italian silk. It is not just a couch.
- It’s just a couch!"
- Carolyn and Lester Burnham, American Beauty

"- I'm not paying you to do... whatever it is you're doing out here.
- Fine. So don't pay me.
- Excuse me?
- I quit. So you don't have to pay me. Now leave me alone.
- ...asshole.
- I think you just became my personal hero!
- Catering Boss, Ricky Fitts and Lester Burnham, American Beauty

"I need a father who's a role model, not some horny geek-boy who's gonna spray his shorts every time I bring a girlfriend home from school."
- Jane Burnham, American Beauty

"Look at me, jerking off in the shower... This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here"
- Lester Burnham, American Beauty

The Island (USA, 2005) ** - I thought a lot about giving the film a three. But, honestly, a film that has the potential to be excellent and falls in total cliché is, for me, an utter disappointment. There were some good lines, yes, and the plot, like I said, has great potential. *retrains self not to mention the terrible ending wirh home-made visual effects*

"- How come we never did this before?
- Shut up.
- That tongue thing is amazing!"
- Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta, The Island

"- Who is 'God'?
- You know when you really want something, you close your eyes and wish for it really hard? God is the guy that ignores you."
- Lincoln Six-Echo and McCord, The Island

We have to work on him on the weekend.

Well, I don't know. You are crazy after all.

*points* I got an "workaholic" icon that has a picture that looks like that one. *grins*

You like bowling, don't you, Montag?

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. If the government is inefficient, topheavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel like they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.
